$1,705.38 Bi-weekly (based on education and experience)

 Description:

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator,  this position will build on the existing infrastructure of  the Oklahoma Central Cancer Registry (OCCR) to facilitate more rapid reporting of pediatric cancer cases (age:  0-19) and to increase availability of  this data for surveillance activities at the local, state, and national level.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

·         Plans, organizes and/or directs the Early Case Capture Project (ECC) under the supervision of the Principle Investigator.

·         Interprets and advises the ECC Core Management Team on departmental rules, regulations and laws governing the Oklahoma Central Cancer Registry as related to the ECC Project.

·         Prepares administrative and statistical documents pertaining to the ECC Project.

·         Provides supervision or direction to assigned staff in planning, promoting, and implementing the ECC Project in accordance with agency policies and goals.

·         Advises on future resource requirements and priorities for the ECC Project and activities; estimates timetables for accomplishing assigned activities; develops policies, rules, and regulations consistent with state and federal laws pertaining to the administration of the ECC Project.

·         Plans, develops and conducts training, and meetings as required; represents the Oklahoma Central Cancer Registry ECC Project at meetings, seminars, and conferences.

·         Drafts policies and procedures, and assists with the development of grant proposals and required reports.

·         Reviews proposed legislation and recommends changes to ECC Core Management Team.

 

Education and Work Experience:

Bachelors degree in nursing, science or health related discipline from an accredited college or university.  Preference will be given to those applicants who are Certified Clinical Research Coordinators (CCRC) and have experience with research protocols and implementation.  As appropriate, a valid State of Oklahoma RN licensure or nationally recognized certification as a research professional (either CCRA or CCRC).

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Includes knowledge of the methods of organization and management; of research practices and protocols; of basic public health principles; of HIPAA and IRB requirements; of grant or program requirements; of the legislative process; of basic research and statistical techniques; and of federal and state laws and regulations relating to administration of assigned program.  Ability is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; to establish and develop training programs; to exercise good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions; and to organize and present facts and opinions.

Position requires possible response to public health emergencies including, but not limited to, natural disasters, disease outbreaks, or catastrophic events.

Description:

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator this position will build on the existing infrastructure of  the Oklahoma Central Cancer Registry (OCCR) to facilitate more rapid reporting of pediatric cancer cases (age:  0-19) and to increase availability of  this data for surveillance activities at the local, state, and national level.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

·         Review pathology records for compliance with state and federal standards of timeliness, completeness, and accuracy for all cancer reporting facilities across the state.

·         Contact all pathology laboratories on a periodic basis to determine staffing, management of cancer case reporting, and problem solve reporting difficulties.

·         Provide onsite and telephone consultation for all such facilities.

·         Do visual and computer audits, edits, and abstract for accuracy and completeness, and conduct timeliness analysis.

·         Responsible for collection and integration of electronic pathology reporting from pathology laboratories, free standing and ambulatory surgery reporting.

·         Performs visual review of electronic records.

·         Assists in determining training need to improve quality of cancer data.

·         Train new staff and staff from pathology laboratories in cancer registry policy and in cancer reporting procedures.

·         State and National travel required

Education and Work Experience:

Preferred education for this position is a bachelor’s degree in a biological science, health science, nursing, or a closely related field or four years of experience in performing duties related to or involving pathology laboratory and/or cancer registry activities or a combination of education and experience.  Preference will be given to applicants who are certified Histology Technicians (ASCP).

 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Requirements at this level consist of knowledge of the causes, impacts and prevention methods of public health; basic epidemiology, chemistry and physiology, mathematical concepts including basic statistical analysis; rules and regulations governing tumor registry activities both within a facility and the central registry; minimum data elements established by the National Program of Cancer Registries, SEER and the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries; and rules and regulations governing the state agency in carrying out its activities.  Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; use computers; organize work and work independently.  Leadership and problem solving skills will be required.

INTEGRIS Cancer Institute of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma is seeking a full time Cancer Registrar to assist in all areas of cancer documentation including collecting, coding and analyzing data on patients identified with a cancer diagnosis and/or treated malignancy. Provides administrative support for cancer conferences, tumor board presentations, patient follow-up, and case-finding. Assists the physician and medical staff on cancer center related reports and patient data collection.

Qualifications Required:

* Minimum one year oncology experience

* Two years medical field experience

* Broad based knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD-9-CM, DRG, and CPT  coding is required

* Extensive knowledge of cancer registry software system (PREMIER-Impac)

* Extensive knowledge AJCC TNM staging

* Certified Cancer Registrar (CTR) preferred
