More than 15,000 pounds of ready-to-eat jerky and snack stick products are being recalled nationwide after federal officials discovered the presence of an undeclared allergen.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Springville Meat & Cold Storage Co., Inc. is recalling a variety of its meat snack products because they contain anchovies — a type of fish allergen that was not listed on the product packaging.
According to FSIS, the issue was identified during routine production checks, when inspectors found that the Worcestershire sauce used in the company’s jerky and snack sticks included anchovies. The company had previously used a version of Worcestershire sauce without fish ingredients, but had unknowingly switched to a formulation containing anchovies without updating the labels accordingly.

The recall affects a wide range of jerky types, including beef, elk, venison, and buffalo. Affected items were produced over a two-year period, from May 30, 2023, to May 30, 2025, and can be identified by the establishment number “EST. 20528” printed within the USDA inspection mark.
These products were distributed to retail stores across the United States.
At this time, no illnesses or allergic reactions related to the products have been reported. Still, FSIS advises consumers who may be allergic to fish or concerned about potential health risks to consult their healthcare provider.
Consumers are encouraged to review product labels and lot codes carefully. A full list of affected labels and codes can be accessed [on the FSIS website].
If you purchased any of the recalled items, it is recommended to either throw them away or return them to the store of purchase.
